Dental Implants – Our Implant Dentists Replace Missing Teeth

Traditional options for replacing missing teeth can help you restore your smile’s appearance, but they can’t give you back the fully functional smile you once had. Only one restorative dentistry service is capable of that—dental implants. As one of today’s most popular restorative dentistry services, dental implants offer a wonderful, permanent solution for replacing lost teeth.

What Makes Dental Implants Special?

What sets dental implants apart is the way they interact with your smile. Traditional crowns, bridges, and dentures replace your missing teeth, but they don’t replace your missing roots underneath. That makes a dramatic difference. Your jaw depends on the stimulation it receives from tooth roots to stay strong. When a root goes missing, there’s nothing there to stimulate new bone growth and, as a result, that part of the jaw begins to weaken. As time goes by, other parts of the jaw will begin to weaken as well, putting other teeth in a vulnerable position.

Dental implants counteract this process by coming in two parts. The first part is the crown, which replaces your missing tooth. The second is a prosthetic root made of titanium, which is a biocompatible metal. Over time, your prosthetic root will bond with your jaw, stimulating the growth of new bone tissue and leading to a stronger, more natural smile.

The Dental Implants Process

Restoring a smile with dental implants takes two stages. In the first stage, Dr. Rana of Lincoln Park and Totowa will work with a trusted oral surgeon to place the titanium dental implant posts in your jaw. How many posts you receive will depend on how many teeth you’ll be replacing. It takes just one implant to restore a single tooth, while replacing an entire row of teeth takes multiple posts.

After your posts have been placed, they’ll have time to bond with your jaw. Then, once that’s happened, Dr. Rana will complete your treatment at our Lincoln Park or Totowa dental office by placing the custom restorations that have been specially designed for your needs. He can also replace damaged dental implant restorations for patients with existing dental implants. The result, in either case, will be a strong, restored smile that helps you enjoy better overall health, as well as better oral health and better confidence.
