Restore Teeth with Inlays/Onlays in Lincoln Park
Inlays and onlays are an alternative to traditional fillings, designed to repair teeth that are damaged through injury or decay. Inlays are similar to fillings in that they are installed in the center of the tooth. Alternatively, an onlay is for more serious cases that require more than one bonding point on the tooth. At Comprehensive Dental, Dr. Samir Rana and his associates offer tooth-colored, high-quality inlays and onlays for truly exceptional aesthetic and health benefits. Inlays/Onlays vs. Traditional Fillings
In many ways, inlays and onlays are more effective than traditional fillings. Because they aim to preserve as much of the healthy tooth as possible, inlays and onlays provide a better fit when you have minor to moderate damage that passes the gum line. Inlays and onlays are less likely to discolor over time, thus preserving their aesthetic quality. Inlays are better than traditional fillings for cavities because they are better at blocking bacteria. For teeth that have been so damaged they are structurally weakened, inlays and onlays provide improved strength and stability where traditional fillings could not.
The Inlay/Onlay Process
Having an inlay or onlay placed typically takes two visits. In the first visit, Dr. Rana or one of our team members take impressions of your tooth that will be sent to a dental laboratory to create the inlay or onlay. We also talk to you about the best material to use. If aesthetics are important to you, porcelain is the material that most closely resembles natural teeth. Resin is slightly more durable, which is ideal for people who grind their teeth while they sleep. In the interim, we provide a temporary inlay or onlay to protect the treated tooth until the permanent restoration arrives.
Once your inlay or onlay is ready, we will place it on your tooth and inspect how it fits in your mouth. If needed, our team can make minor adjustments that work better with your bite and the adjacent teeth. Once the fit is just right, the final step will be to secure it to the tooth.
Inlays and onlays are highly successful and rarely require additional assistance. Should you encounter any problems, don’t hesitate to contact Comprehensive Dental! We also strongly recommend patients from Montville, NJ and surrounding areas visit us every six months for check-ups and cleanings so we can check on the success of the restoration and provide any additional treatment if needed.
