Dental Implants

at The Implant Center at Comprehensive Dental in Lincoln Park, NJ Dental implants provide a permanent and effective solution for patients with tooth loss. They are dental devices that serve as artificial tooth roots that anchor crowns securely into the jawbone. In addition, single dental implants help to keep the remaining natural teeth in place, and implant supported dentures stimulate bone growth and prevent facial sagging in those who have lost an entire arch of teeth.

A key advantage of dental implants is their ability to replicate the natural structure of teeth. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges that rest on the gums or adjacent teeth, implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone. This integration with the bone provides a stable foundation for artificial teeth, and mimics the strength and stability of natural teeth. That stability ensures a more comfortable and secure fit, and also improves chewing and speech when compared to other options.

Dental Implant Procedure

A dental implant procedure has multiple steps. First, we perform an assessment of the patient's oral health, and determine if implants are a suitable solution for them. This might include X-rays, CT scans, and other diagnostic tests to assess the condition of the jawbone and surrounding tissues. Once a patient is deemed eligible, we place the titanium implants into the jawbone. Titanium is chosen because it is biocompatible. This allows the bone to fuse with the implant through a process called osseointegration.

After the implant has integrated with the jawbone, a connection called an abutment is attached to the implant. This is the link between the implant and the artificial tooth. Custom made crowns, bridges, or dentures attach to the abutments to complete the dental implants. The prosthetic teeth are meticulously designed to match the patient's natural teeth in color, shape, and alignment. This ensures a functional, seamless, natural look.

Dental Implant Advantages

Dental implants offer many advantages over other tooth replacement options. The biggest benefit is that they provide a permanent solution. Dental implants eliminate the need for frequent adjustments or replacements that come with dentures and bridges. The durability of implants enhances convenience and is a cost effective, long term solution. In addition, dental implants preserve bone density in the jaw. When a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone loses density over time. Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, prevent bone loss, and maintain facial structure.

Dental implants also provide the functional benefits of chewing and speaking with no worries about the slippage that comes with traditional dentures. Also, there are no dietary restrictions with dental implants, unlike dentures and other dental appliances. Dental implants also improve the quality of life for individuals who have lost teeth. The restoration of a complete and natural-looking smile provides more confidence. This enables patients to socialize without the fear of embarrassment associated with missing teeth, or slipping dentures.

Dental implants are a durable and secure solution for patients dealing with tooth loss. The integration of advanced implant materials and surgical techniques provide a durable, natural-looking, and long-lasting option for tooth replacement. As technology advances, the field of implant dentistry will evolve further, and offer even more refined solutions for oral health.

All on X

We offer All-on-X for patients missing all or most of their teeth. This full-arch restoration only uses 4-6 implants to support the entire bridge. The posterior (back) implants are placed at an angle to utilize the strongest part of the jawbone. Other full-arch restorations usually require six to eight implants. Thanks to the revolutionary new technique, All-on-X is much more effective and minimally-invasive than other options.

Implant Supported Dentures

An implant-supported denture is similar to All-on-4 but usually requires more implants. We may recommend an implant-supported denture if you want a better alternative to traditional dentures. A traditional denture is a removable appliance that rests on the gums. Because it is not secured by implants, many patients experience difficulty eating, discomfort, and even embarrassing slips.

Single Tooth Implants

If you are missing a single tooth, an implant-supported crown may be the best solution. An implant-supported crown usually consists of three components: the implant post, and abutment (support structure), and the restoration. We may recommend an implant-supported crown in place of more traditional options, such as a conventional bridge or partial denture.

After Implant Placement

Dental implants provide our patients with a fantastic option in replacing missing teeth. Implant treatment is more than placing a new tooth; it involves reconstructing the tooth from the root. During your consultation, our staff at The Implant Center at Comprehensive Dental will walk you through the steps and we can answer questions all along the way, including what to expect following surgical placement.

Multiple Teeth Replacement

If you are missing multiple teeth, multiple implants can be used to support a larger restoration, such as a partial or complete fixed bridge. The type of restoration you receive depends on the number of missing teeth and their location. A multiple teeth restoration will improve your ability to properly chew and speak, as well as the aesthetics of your smile.

Zygomatic Dental Implants

While traditional dental implants are anchored into your jawbone, zygomatic dental implants are placed into your cheekbone, also known as your zygoma. Zygomatic dental implants are able to be surgically placed into the cheekbone and anchored immediately, thus removing the wait time of traditional dental implants which are embedded into your jawbone and require time to fuse together. Zygomatic dental implants have an extra long post that serves as the artificial tooth root. Zygomatic implants are generally used to replace a full set of teeth.

Dentures

A denture is a removable appliance that is usually used to replace one or more missing teeth. A partial denture usually attaches to the surrounding teeth with metal clasps. A complete denture consists of a flesh-colored acrylic base that supports a complete arch of prosthetic teeth. We offer custom-fit dentures as a more comfortable, functional, and durable solution.

Bone Grafting

Successful implant treatment requires a sufficient amount of bone in the jaw. We may recommend a bone graft if your bone is too thin or too soft to support an implant. A graft can help restore deteriorated bone, and give you a second chance at implant treatment!

Sinus Lift

A sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation, is a surgical procedure designed to increase the amount of bone in the upper jaw, specifically in the area of the molars and premolars. This procedure is typically performed when there is insufficient bone height in the upper jaw to support dental implants.
