What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are ultra-thin shells of dental-grade porcelain, typically 0.5mm thick, bonded directly to the front surface of teeth. They are custom-fabricated to your exact specifications — the shade, shape, and size are all chosen collaboratively by you and Dr. Rana. Once bonded, veneers are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth and are highly resistant to staining.
What Can Veneers Fix?
Porcelain veneers can correct a wide range of aesthetic concerns in a single treatment:
Permanently stained or discolored teeth that don’t respond to whitening
Chipped, cracked, or worn teeth
Gaps between teeth (diastema)
Minor misalignment or uneven tooth sizes
Teeth that are too small or oddly shaped
The Veneer Process at Comprehensive Dental
Veneers are typically completed in two appointments at our Lincoln Park office. At your first visit, Dr. Rana prepares the teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel (usually less than 0.5mm), takes impressions or digital scans, and places temporary veneers while your custom porcelain shells are fabricated. At your second visit, the permanent veneers are bonded with a strong dental adhesive and any final adjustments are made.
For eligible patients, we also offer no-prep or minimal-prep veneers, which require little to no enamel removal.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 15–20 years. They should be treated like natural teeth — brush and floss daily, avoid biting hard objects, and wear a night guard if you grind your teeth. Dr. Rana provides comprehensive aftercare guidance at every veneer delivery appointment.
Veneers vs. Other Cosmetic Options
Compared to dental bonding, porcelain veneers are more durable and stain-resistant, though bonding is a good option for minor corrections. Compared to orthodontics, veneers can achieve certain cosmetic alignment results in weeks rather than months or years. During your consultation, Dr. Rana will recommend the most appropriate solution for your specific goals.
